We spoke with Larry Sommerfeld, director of buildings and grounds for the Eau Claire Area School District about an upcoming renovation.
“The project at McKinley is doing a major addition and remodeling to the existing McKinley Charter School.
The project is estimated to run between 2 and 2.4 million dollars. The money is coming from the referendum that was approved by the voters of the district.
Some of the renovation items we’re trying to accomplish at McKinley are renovation of the existing bathrooms, they don’t meet accessibility guidelines, increasing the educational space to meet their needs. They also need a secure entrance, so that’s part of the project.
We’ll be maintaining a building that’s brand new, so maintenance costs will be less for the district, and it will perform better for the students.”
