The Apple Doesn’t Fall Far

Since before Lincoln was President, Connell’s Family Orchard in Chippewa County has been growing apples. It takes a family to pull it off — the entire family, in fact — from 10-year-old Braedon to Bea the clan’s nonagenarian matriarch. In addition to apples, there are raspberries, peaches, plums, and pumpkins to husband, and even honey to make, the kind of busy work that keeps one young, and keeps a family close to the land they know best.
