Library to Host Program on Urban Beekeeping

There has been a lot of buzz about a new ordinance the Eau Claire City Council is considering to allow beekeeping within the city limits.  Local citizens can learn more about the culture of beekeeping, along with a brief look at the local effort to legalize backyard beekeeping in Eau Claire, at an upcoming library program.  The L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library in Eau Claire will host “Beekeeping in the Chippewa Valley” on Tuesday, February 3 at 7 p.m. in the Eau Claire Room, located on the library’s lower level.  Refreshments will be provided.  This free event is open to the public.  No registration required.

Beekeeping has been an important part of human existence for thousands of years, but recently has gone through some changes.  Participants will learn about modern issues including urban beekeeping and colony collapse.  The pros and cons of backyard beekeeping will also be discussed.

The program will be presented by Drew Kaiser, Vice President of the Chippewa Valley Beekeepers and coordinator of Eau Claire’s petition for a beekeeping ordinance.
