Library’s “Writers Read” Spotlights Karen Loeb

“Writers Read: Voice and Place in Fiction and Poetry” will be held at the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library in Eau Claire on Tuesday evening, April 7. The program will feature local author Karen Loeb, who will read selections from her short fiction and recent poems interspersed with a bit of personal reflection.  The free program begins at 7 p.m. in the Eau Claire Room on the library’s lower level.  Refreshments will be served.  No registration required.

Karen Loeb’s story “The Walk to Makino” won first place in the 2014 Wisconsin People and Ideas fiction contest and was published in print and online. Another story, “Cantaloupe,” in the top 5 of 1400 submissions, was an Editor’s Choice in the 2014 Raymond Carver short story contest and was also published in print and online in Carve Magazine. Other fiction and poetry have appeared in Thema, Hanging Loose, Main Street Rag and elsewhere.  Loeb is a professor emerita at U.W. – Eau Claire, where she occasionally teaches English or Honors courses.

“Writers Read” is a monthly library presentation organized by Eau Claire’s Poet Laureate, Bruce Taylor.  Each reading features original poetry and prose written by writers living and working in the Chippewa Valley.
