Immigration, Refugee Forum – make Eau Claire a “Welcome City”

Immigration and refugee forum held at Unitarian Universalist Church on February 1, 2017 in Eau Claire, WI.

The community came together to hear stories from their neighbors about immigration to the United States.

Reverend Julie Lepp opened the forum reminding the community “…that religions across the world, have one thing that they share in common: love, a belief that we should love our neighbors as ourselves.” Remarks were made by several members of our community from many different religions, walks of life, and immigrants from around the world.

Eau Claire City Council members, Kate Beaton and Andrew Werthmann spoke to the crowd about diversity within the city and the inspiration that they have found in the community.

Eau Claire School Board member, Joe Luginbill reminds us about the children in our community that “represent our future, and they represent not a future that is a great America, but a future that is a good America.”

Speakers at the event: Julie Lepp, Kate Beaton, Nizar Ottoman, Pa Thou, Mireya V. Sigala, Paul Kaldjian, Jennifer Templin, Andrew Werthmann, Debra Barker, Selika Ducksworth-Lawton, Brandon Buchanan, and Joe Luginbill.
