Digging Deeper: Library Program Explores Organic Lawn Care

This time of year many local gardeners and lawn care enthusiasts are getting outside to clean up the debris left behind by winter, start planning for new plants, and finding solutions for common problems such as plant nutrition, hydration, and pests.   An upcoming program at the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library in Eau Claire will be taking a closer at what really matters – the soil itself.  “Working with Nature: The Science behind Organic Lawn Care,” presented by Gordon Petschow, will look at nature’s interactions and interrelationships as it relates to crop production and health.  The program will start at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, in the Eau Claire Room, located on the library’s lower level.  No registration is required.

This program will discuss the differences between conventional and organic lawn care.  Topics will include:

  • Scientific methods to manage lawn care needs
  • Foundations of organism productions
  • Soil testing for chemistry and balance

Lecturer Gordon Petschow is the owner of Midwest Environmental Consultants.  Gordon holds degrees in Biology and Physical Geography from U.W. – Eau Claire, and has 55 years of experience in the environmental natural resources conservation field with emphasis on land planning, landscaping, and organic land management.
